Welcome to Ojos de Agua
San Cristobal de las Casas, with an estimated population size of 200,000 inhabitants, is a metropolitan centre that provides a wide range of services in the areas of education, government and health to different municipalities in the area. This important city lacks a sanitation system and consequently delivers untreated sewage into the various rivers and creeks that traverse and feed the Watershed. Additionally, a good proportion of the sewer system in the city is incomplete or absent. These actions have a direct and negative impact on health in vulnerable populations that are forced to use this contaminated water for agriculture and household purposes, not only in the Valley of Jovel but also in all riverside communities downstream.
At Ojos de Agua we believe that clean rivers will once more grace the Vally of San Cristobal de Las Casas.
